Historic Brixham and the English Riviera

Brixham

Picturesque fishing port with a rich maritime story — including the landing of William of Orange in 1688. The harbour, breakwater, and replica Golden Hind are focal points. Enjoy seafood at the bustling fish market, coastal walks to Berry Head National Nature Reserve, and panoramic views from Battery Gardens. Major annual highlights include the Brixham Pirate Festival (May Bank Holiday), the Brixham Trawler Race (June), and the Fishstock Festival (September). The town also hosts regular quayside music evenings, artisan markets, and heritage tours throughout the year.

Paignton

A classic seaside resort with long sandy beaches, a Victorian pier, and family attractions. Highlights include Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, the Geoplay Park, and Splashdown Quaywest at Goodrington Sands. Paignton is home to the spectacular English Riviera Airshow (late May), drawing thousands to the seafront. Summer evenings feature the hugely popular Paignton Seafront Bike Nights, with hundreds of motorcycles lining the Esplanade. The Paignton–Kingswear Steam Railway runs special event days, heritage weekends, and themed journeys along the coast. Seasonal festivals, including the lively Paignton Nite Festival on the Green, bring food stalls, music, and family entertainment.

Torquay

Elegant coastal town famed for its palm-lined promenade, marina, and sheltered beaches. Explore Torre Abbey and its gardens, Cockington Country Park with craft studios, and Kents Cavern — one of Europe’s most important prehistoric cave systems. Family favourites include Torquay’s Dinosaur World and the Babbacombe Model Village. Key annual events include the Torbay Royal Regatta (August), the Agatha Christie Festival (September), and seasonal illuminations along Princess Gardens and the seafront. Boat trips, theatres, and waterfront dining complete the Riviera experience.
